Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll est née le 2 février 1977 à Barranquilla (Colombie), au bord de la mer des Caraïbes, un des ports les plus importants du pays. Fille unique d'une famille d'origine libanaise, ses parents s'appellent William Mebarak et Nidia Ripoll.

Elle sait s'entourer et co-écrit sa chanson "Goodies" avec Sean Garrett, à qui l'on doit le tube de Usher "Yeah!", Lil Jon entend la démo et ne met pas logntemps pour voir le potentiel d'une telle chanson et de sa jolie et talentueuse interprète !
